102 and Counting

Some pix from a Saturday night rooftop rainfest, another Cubs loss, another brick in the wall. Started out alone at the Captain Morgan club outside Wrigley with Sweet Swingin’ Billy Williams. So not really alone. This $7 beer was the only one I bought the entire night (not including the pre-paid all-inclusive food and drink rooftop fee). Steady mist, temps in the 40s and 50s. Middle of May in Chicago.

The party was at a rooftop in right field, the one with the “Eamus Catuli” on it. For you illiterates out there, I looked it up and here’s what it means:

It is Latin and most think it says ‘Let’s Go Cubs!’. The actual translation(from Latin) is ‘Let’s Go Young Bears!’

Who knows if that’s true. It also has the “AC0265102” sign, which is a little more complicated. In fact, there are conflicting internet sources, but I’ll go with this one:

The counter is labeled “AC,” for “Anno Catuli,” or “In the Year of the Cubs.” The first two digits indicate the number of years since the Cubs’ last division championship as of the end of the previous season (2008), the next two digits indicate the number of years since the Cubs’ last trip to the World Series (1945), and the last three digits indicate the number of years since their last World Series win (1908).

I thought it stood for “After Championship,” but whatevs…

Game was called in the 7th, Cubs lose 3-0. If only we could have played those last three innings! They were on the verge of figuring it out! Anyway, here’s the L stop at Addison. It had been a while since I’d been on it but no complaints this time around.

Had to make the switch to get on the Blue Line. Basically, I went from Wrigley to downtown and then back to Logan Square. A nice summer night and a bike ride would have cut this in half but oh well.

Nice lookin’ ceiling at the…Jackson stop? Shit, I don’t remember.

I wisely brought the iPod for the journey, and at some point this 25 minute Sufjan Stevens song came on. Wow. What a song! It was the perfect soundtrack for the way home. “Impossible Soul” from Age of Adz.

And then I got off at Logan and found myself in a weird time warp, ran into this chiseled piece of something…1908…1908, that’s strange…wait, 1908, the last time the Cubs won the World Series! I swear I didn’t even make the connection until just now! This must mean something. It has to. Oh, my tortured brain…
